What Is a Free Proxy?

A free proxy is a publicly open proxy server you can use without paying anything. Just like paid proxies, they route your internet traffic through their own IP address: the site you connect to sees the proxy server's address, not your real IP. Also searched for as "bedava proxy" in Turkey, these services are the fastest starting point for hiding your IP, connecting from another country and running simple access tests.

Free proxies usually come from servers deliberately left open, endpoints published for testing and short-lived public lists. That is why the most critical issue is is how up to date the list is: an address that worked yesterday may be down today. How to Use a Free Proxy

A proxy address has two parts: an IP and a port (for example 185.93.68.14:8080). All you have to do is enter the address you pick from the list into your device's or browser's network settings. Short guides per platform:

Chrome

Chrome has no proxy setting of its own; it uses the operating system's. Go to Settings > System > "Open your computer's proxy settings" and follow the Windows steps below. Firefox

Firefox has its own independent proxy setting: go to Settings > General > Network Settings > "Manual proxy configuration" and enter the IP and port. For SOCKS5 addresses use the "SOCKS v5" row and tick "Proxy DNS when using SOCKS v5". Details: Firefox proxy settings guide.

Windows

Open Settings > Network & Internet > Proxy > "Manual proxy setup", turn on the "Use a proxy server" switch and enter the IP and port. This setting applies system-wide. Details: Windows proxy settings guide.

Android

In Wi-Fi settings, long-press the network you are connected to > Modify network > Advanced > Proxy > Manual. Enter the IP and port and save; the setting applies only to that Wi-Fi network. Details: Android proxy settings guide.

Differences Between Free and Paid Proxies

Are Free Proxies Safe?

The honest answer: depending on the case. Because free proxies are public servers, you cannot know whose infrastructure your traffic passes through. So use them with realistic expectations:

• Compared with paid alternatives, free proxies are noticeably slow is possible; a large number of people use the same IP at the same time.
• No uptime guarantee: addresses can go offline without warning, so you need to refresh the list often.
• Banking, email and anything that needs a password do not use free proxies for sensitive operations; unencrypted (HTTP) traffic can be read by third parties.
• Prefer HTTPS-capable addresses and never click through your browser's certificate warnings.
