What Is a Datacenter Proxy?
A datacenter proxy is a proxy type that routes your traffic through servers in hosting providers' data centers. The IP addresses belong not to a home or a mobile line but directly to the data center's network. This structure produces two distinct results: exceptional speed and low cost.
Datacenter proxies are the worker bees of the proxy market — the fastest, cheapest and most abundant type. Used on the right job they are unbeatable; used on the wrong one they are the first to be filtered out. This page makes clear which job is the "right" one.
FreeProxy.tr datacenter infrastructure runs in Tier III+ data centers on a 10 Gbps backbone. Average latency is under 10 milliseconds and traffic is unlimited on all plans. There is none of the variability of a home or mobile line; performance is the same at every hour of the day.
The Advantages in Numbers
- Highest speed: A data center backbone is many times faster than home and mobile connections.
- Lowest latency: Sub-10 ms response times; decisive in time-sensitive work.
- Affordable price: The cost per IP is a small fraction of residential traffic (starting from ₺49/month).
- Unlimited traffic: There is no GB counter; transfer as much data as you like.
- Persistence: Your IP is static; keep it as long as you want.
- Scale: Bulk allocation from a single IP up to a /24 subnet block.
The Limit: ASN Visibility
The only real limit of a datacenter proxy is that its IPs are registered to hosting networks (ASNs). The network each IP is registered to is public data, and bot protection systems read it on the very first check. Traffic from hosting ASNs is flagged as "possibly not human".
What does that mean in practice? On aggressively protected targets such as large marketplaces, social networks, sneaker and ticket sites, datacenter IPs run into CAPTCHAs or blocks quickly. This limit is not insurmountable, but rather than trying to beat it, it is far smarter to use a datacenter proxy on the right target. For protected targets, use residential or ISP proxy instead.
Comparison with Residential
| Criterion | Datacenter | Residential |
| Speed | Highest | Medium |
| Latency | <10 ms | 50-300 ms |
| Detection risk | Medium | Very low |
| Cost | Low per IP | Per GB |
| Traffic | Unlimited | Plan quota |
Simple rule: if the target site does not use aggressive bot protection, a datacenter proxy is always more economical. If you are unsure, run a simple test — send 50-100 requests from a datacenter IP. If they go through cleanly the target is tolerant and datacenter is enough; if you get CAPTCHAs or 403s it is protected and you should step up to residential.
Why Do Speed and Latency Matter?
The core value of a datacenter proxy is performance, and that feeds straight into operating cost. An example: if an SEO tool fires hundreds of thousands of SERP queries a day, a 200 ms difference per request adds up to hours. For price bots, stock monitoring systems and API-based integrations, low latency means doing the same work in less time and with fewer resources.
You can measure your own latency with our ping test tool and see the difference with and without a proxy. If you are curious about the components of latency, our proxy latency article covers the topic in detail.
Dedicated or Shared?
Datacenter proxies come in two models. Shared IPs are sold to more than one user; it is the cheapest option, but your neighbors also shape the IP's reputation — if someone abuses the IP, you are affected too. Dedicated The IP is yours alone; its reputation record is built by your own behavior. The price difference is small, the control difference is large. We recommend dedicated for regular and critical work.
What Is a Subnet (IP Block)?
If you need a large number of IPs, having a consecutive block (subnet) allocated is more economical and more manageable than buying them one by one. Common block sizes:
| Block | IP count | Typical use |
| /29 | 8 IPs | Small team, multiple exits |
| /28 | 16 IPs | Mid-scale automation |
| /26 | 64 IPs | Heavy crawling operation |
| /24 | 256 IPs | Full block ownership, rDNS management |
Block allocation lowers the unit cost, delivers all IPs at once and simplifies whitelist management thanks to consecutive addresses. In large operations a /24 block also puts rDNS and routing control in your hands.
IPv4 or IPv6?
Datacenter proxies are traditionally IPv4 and offer universal compatibility. But if your target supports IPv6 (Google services, large CDNs, modern platforms), IPv6 proxy gives you far higher volume at a tenth of the cost. On high-volume, IPv6-compatible work the difference is dramatic. If you need universal reach, IPv4 is the safe choice.
Typical Use Cases
SEO and Rank Tracking
High-volume SERP queries are the job that benefits most from a datacenter proxy's speed advantage. When targets like Google behave tolerantly, low latency and unlimited traffic let you crawl thousands of keywords fast. See SEO proxy.
Site Speed and Availability Tests
Consistent performance means reliable measurement. The steady speed of a datacenter proxy is ideal for CDN performance measurements and availability tests.
Collecting Data from Unprotected Sources
When crawling open APIs, unprotected sites and public data sources, a datacenter proxy is the cheapest and fastest solution. See web scraping proxy.
Automation and API Integrations
A fixed exit IP and easy whitelisting make datacenter practical in automation and integration scenarios. Unlimited traffic is a major advantage for monitoring bots running 24/7. See automation proxy.
Development and Test Environments
When an application needs a fixed exit IP, a datacenter proxy covers it at the lowest cost.
Datacenter Proxy Setup
Because it is a static IP:port, setup is simple; it goes straight into any tool:
| Environment | Usage |
| curl | curl --proxy ip:port --proxy-user user:pass https://target |
| With whitelist | Add your server IP in the dashboard; connect without a password |
| Environment variable | HTTPS_PROXY=http://user:pass@ip:port |
How Long Does Setup Take?
Your IPs are assigned automatically as soon as payment is confirmed; average delivery is under 60 seconds. Subnet blocks are allocated instantly too; large /24 blocks may need extra coordination for rDNS configuration.
