Using Proxies for Amazon

Amazon shows the same product at a different price, with different stock and a different seller in each marketplace. For a seller this is the invisible half of the competition: who wins the Buy Box in which marketplace is something you can only see by looking with that marketplace's IP. Here a proxy is not a tool for hiding, but a tool for measurement.

Data That Differs by Marketplace

Green cells mean "changes noticeably by marketplace". Looking at a single marketplace and generalising is misleading.

Choosing the IP Type

Amazon uses fairly advanced bot detection on product pages. Datacenter IPs are quickly redirected to a "robot check" page. At production scale, residential proxy is practically mandatory; routing every request through residential, however, inflates the cost.

Compared with an all-residential approach, this flow typically halves GB consumption.

Request Rate and Pattern

What triggers blocking is most often not the total number of requests but its pattern: a few requests per second, always in the same order, with no pauses at all. A pattern that comes closer to human behaviour carries the same volume for far longer.

The total number of requests is the same in both runs. The difference is a random delay of 0.8–3 seconds between requests.

Region and Language Consistency

  • Accept-Language header should match the IP's country — a DE IP + tr-TR is an inconsistency that gets noticed.
  • Set the postal code cookie to match the target marketplace; shipping time and stock change accordingly.
  • Use a separate session for each marketplace; do not mix cookies.

What Can and Cannot Be Collected?

Amazon's terms of use restrict automated access. Monitoring publicly available information such as price and stock for your own products and for competitive analysis is a common practice; collecting personal data such as customer information or reviewer identities, however, may be contrary both to those terms and to regulations such as KVKK and similar legislation. As you scale up, evaluate official partner programmes and API access.

Frequently Asked Questions

01Do datacenter proxies never work on Amazon?

They can work at low volume and with infrequent requests. For a pipeline that monitors continuously, though, the success rate drops quickly.

02How many IPs do I need?

Divide your hourly request target by the safe number of requests per IP. In residential pools that number is managed by the gateway; you only adjust concurrency.
