There is a hierarchy in the proxy world, and residential proxies sit on its top step: the hardest to detect, the highest success rate and therefore the most valuable type of IP. In this article we give the technical answer to the “why”.
Definition
A residential proxy is a proxy that uses IP addresses that real internet service providers (ISPs) have assigned to home users . Your request exits through someone's actual home internet connection (or with an address registered to that connection). When the target site looks up the IP, it sees an ordinary subscriber on Türk Telekom or Comcast.
Why Is It So Hard to Detect?
Bot protection systems measure IP reputation with three questions: Who is this IP registered to? What has it done before? Is its current behavior normal? Datacenter IPs are eliminated at the first question — “ordinary user” traffic coming from an address registered to a hosting company is suspicious. A residential IP, on the other hand, passes the first question naturally: home subscribers are the normal traffic of the internet. Blocking them wholesale means blocking real customers.
Where Do the IPs Come From? (The Ethical Dimension)
This is the industry's most important question. Legitimate providers source IPs in two ways: user networks that have given explicit consent to bandwidth sharing and are paid in return (SDK partnerships), and direct agreements with ISPs. FreeProxy.tr uses only these two channels; pools fed by devices without consent (botnets and the like) are both unethical and legally risky. When choosing a provider, always ask about their sourcing policy.
Session Modes
Rotating
Every request exits with a different IP from the pool. The standard mode for high-volume data collection jobs.
Sticky
The same IP is kept for 1-30 minutes; multi-step flows (login, cart, forms) are completed without the IP changing. You set the session ID yourself with a connection parameter.
